Kickstarter Project Will Turn Your Old Phone Into The New Captain Planet
At the current rate, average temperatures on earth will rise between 2.5 and 10 degrees Fahrenheit within the next hundred years. This may not seem like a lot, but the effects of this change will be drastic. Here are just a few of those effects: Thousands of species will go extinct, the Amazon rainforest (which produces about 20% of the earth’s oxygen) will turn into a savanna, and large areas of the world will experience 50% less rain (which means less drinking water and less yeild from crops). In short, the earth will become a less hospitable, less survivable place.
...slowing climate change to a crawl is as easy as one brilliant idea.
It’s difficult to catch the illegal logging operations that account for 17% of yearly climate change, but this project will make catching them extremely easy--easy to the point that software on these devices can use sound to triangulate and pinpoint exactly where the logging is happening, and then they automatically alert the authorities.
This kickstarter campaign (if funded) will slow the rate of climate change by about 17%, which may be enough for us to figure out a way to completely offset climate change--and save a lot of lives in the process.
There are checks and balances built into the devices. Each one catalogues the incidences and alerts that are sent to the authorities, so if authorities don’t stop loggers, we’ll know we can safely hold those authorities accountable for their negligence.
The solar panels upon which the old cell phones sit are built with a new technology that allows them to absorb energy even through the shade of the canopy. This allows them to remain on at all times.
Overall, this seems like a great plan. Turns out, our old cellphones are the new Captain Planet.
