	The Mark 84 (I think) torpedo is launched from a tube using compressed air, looks lame, but there's no point in launching it like a cruise missle or anything, it would work nearly as well to roll it off the side... it travels to it's sonar-guided target using a propeller; it's WWII tech as far as weapon is concerned, but the electronics have been improved so that they rarely miss. All that said, the splicing of the torpedo drop and the huge explosion may mean the two events aren't related, but they may be. Torpedos have something like a 1/2 or more of explosives in their noses.
