Cool story, even if I did see it a while back. People don't give animals credit for the intelligence that SOME of them have. I have a dog that I've taught to count to 50 and he actually understands what he is doing, and makes it look easy.

Nice story anyway Scott.

leader of its own pride? doubtful. The story has cracks but the idea of a lion pet is believable I guess

I have a story just like this!

In 1986, Peter Davies was on holiday in Kenya after graduating from Northwestern University ..

On a hike through the bush, he came across a young bull elephant standing with one leg raised in the air. The elephant seemed distressed, so Peter approached it very carefully.

He got down on one knee and inspected the elephant's foot and found a large piece of wood deeply embedded in it. As carefully and as gently as he could, Peter worked the wood out with his hunting knife, after which the elephant gingerly put down its foot. The elephant turned to face the man, and with a rather curious look on its face, stared at him for several tense moments. Peter stood frozen, thinking of nothing else but being trampled. Eventually the elephant trumpeted loudly, turned, and walked away. Peter never forgot that elephant or the events of that day.

Twenty years later, Peter was walking through the Chicago Zoo with his teenage son. As they approached the elephant enclosure, one of the creatures turned and walked over to near where Peter and his son Cameron were standing. The large bull elephant stared at Peter, lifted its front foot off the ground, then put it down. The elephant did that several times then trumpeted loudly, all the while staring at the man.

Remembering the encounter in 1986 and knowing that elephants are renowned for their memory ability, Peter couldn't help wondering if this was the same elephant. Peter summoned up his courage, climbed over the railing and made his way into the enclosure. He walked right up to the elephant and stared back in wonder. The elephant trumpeted again, wrapped its trunk gently around Peter legs, lifting him carefully then slammed his stupid ass against the railing, killing him instantly.

Probably wasn't the same elephant.

This is for all of my friends who send me those heart-warming stories.

Seems intelligence amongst man is in the same ratio as the animals. Most are smart, less are intelligent, and even fewer are wise.

I would really differentiate between smart and intelligent. There are alot of intelligent people who can think things out but aren't smart to put it into practice. And smart people who can't think things out quite as well, but are smart enough to run the machines.

Gaining and retaining alot of knowledge may make a person knowledgeable. But wise people know better what to put in practice and what not. Being able to construct a nuclear bomb might be intelligent, but not very wise.

Intelligence = Knowledge
Wisdom = Knowing how to put that knowledge to use in a given situation / scenario.

Intelligence is useless without a certain degree of wisdom.

Knowledge doesnt grant intelligence, it only grants knowledge. The ability to come to logical conclusions through reasoning, or abstract thinking, is mark of intelligence.

And wisdom, that is to know what decision is good and right.

That is my definitions of them anyway.

Those are your own perceptions of the words. By definition they are the same though.

Being able to construct a nuclear bomb does not make one intelligent. It only means you have the knowledge of how to do it. Figuring out how to do it, without prior knowledge, that takes intelligence.

Very vrong. Intelligence has nothing to do with knowledge. However, wisdom = knowledge.

Intelligence gives you the ability to acquire the knowledge on your own.

Naturally that was exactly what i meant. People often overlook what is trying to be said, which is the reason why i often tend to post annoyingly long posts. You just have to explain in detail sometimes. Human nature it seems, has it that way, that we correct each other even when it's not necessary.

I love seeing stuff like this, but I cant help but think.

The lion would probably be prone to thinking that all humans are friendly, eventually hell run into a trophy hunter, run up to give him a bear hug like in this video, and get a bullet in his head.

Wild animals should be afraid of us...
