I've sat on rallye protest boards often enough to say that they would have to prove it deliberate. From the fact the video shows that the backing car driver hit the brakes as soon as he saw the other car, I would have to vote down any protest. As to stopping to help? Hey it's a competition. As long as no one is injured, you don't stop and exchange drivers licenses and insurance.

Obviously you've never been on a road rallye. (NO criticism intended) Let me explain. There are two people in the car. One is the driver, the other is the co-driver, or navigator. They usually remain as one being the driver and the other as navigator throughout the rallye, however they MAY switch. Teams usually get so used to each other that they operate as one. Anyway, what probably happened was the navigator probably told the driver "I don't think that was our turn." While the navigator is going over often tricky route instructions, the driver slams on the brakes and backs up to the last turn. About that time the navigator yells, that "We were good, go ahead." Too late, "bang." Tough for the other guy, who may protest, and probably lose the protest.
HOWEVER, I've sat on enough protest committees to know anything can happen. If other cars were held back on that particular leg, they MAY throw out the leg. (A leg is from one timed checkpoint to the next.) I've had a leg thrown out on us in protest that only we and one other car made it through. It changed our finishing position from first to third or fourth. Tough! |

This is not real. Nothing in it makes sense.
They don't stop and stay in the middle of the street and get out and walk around, blocking all the next cars comming.
Has to be part of some commercial. |

I USED TO rallye. (I'll not tell you how many years back) As a matter of fact WE, my old buddy David B. rallied for about 11 years together, but never often enough during a season to get sponsorship. We just rallied whenever we could afford it and could get away from our jobs. As I was driving Porsche at the time and could quite honestly not afford to drive it in >hard< rallies, we usually used his (family) Saab which was a fantastic rallye car. [DAMN, don't get me started telling stories.] Anyhow this lasted until Dave made his only mistake in all those years of driving, and brought the car home to his wife with a hole completely through the car just behind the seats that you could throw a bowling ball through where a log had gone through. That was on a POR (Press On Regardless) rallye. Like I said. I USED TO rallye. |
