Have mercy guys, that's an old man. Look at the sneakers with black sox. By the look of his physique, probably the hardest work he's done all his life is pushing a pencil.
When I was a kid, before my folks got their own well, I used have to carry 2 five gallon galvanized pails for water a quarter mile twice or more times a day. I learned in a hurry that it's almost impossible to carry just one pail. You end up dumping half the water out when you are unbalanced like that. Two are much easier to carry, but, if one handle suddenly broke, I probably would have ended up on my ass just like this guy. |

Watch his feet right after the weight comes off, he hops so he can fall where he was standing. That little amount of weight would make you off balance but no where near enough to fall, let alone fall like that  |

I presume that this, is intended as sarcasm. Nonetheless, I was raised on a large lake in the northern part of the southern peninsula of Michigan, USA. We didn't have electricity at that time in that very rural & woodsy part of the country. I was a big kid so I was able to help my dad drill our first two wells, the first one was 15 feet deep, & had very good water. Oh yes, we had an outhouse, and even had to replace it once before we got indoor plumbing. Apparently you've never spent any time in a non school gym. It's very common for people undergoing various therapies to not use any weights on the bars or even use broom handles.

I did forget to mention that our lighting was by kerosene lamp. The Aladdin lamp company makes a very expensive mantle lamp that is extremely bright, and my dad had one of them. We also had an ice box with a drain hole in the floor. The ice was cut out of the lake in the winter, and kept from season to season in a log ice house, under a layer of saw dust.
btw, all boys had pocket knives in school and the teachers never worried about anyone getting stabbed as we were brought up with a Christian ethic, and had the first hour of every day devoted to Bible study. Every teacher had to teach two grades of 25 kids EACH in one classroom. Thats right, 50 kids in a classroom, at least 25 of which had pocket knives, and no troubles with discipline.
I never saw any rebellious students until I attended the big city schools. |
