This guy sold everything he owned and risked his whole life savings on a double or nothing bet.

I truly feel that his ignorance combined with luck exceeded his stupidity while doing this "life saving bet".
I work as a casino croupier and even if you run all on black/red, the odds are never 50%: this is due to the fact that casinos use a zero (which is green- the only bet in roulette that will win on zero is if the zero is included in your bet placing). The payout for a red/black bet is 1:1... so in conclusion he would either win "one more life saving" or he would lose it all. And the favour of losing is slightly higher, would you risk it? |

136k is pocket change for a casino. Given that all the stuff he sold (car, furniture etc. etc.) was at a depreciated value, he really won less than 136k, as he has to buy it all back :p
I'm happy for the guy, I just hope he took some of the 136k before he bet it and bought a .50 cal with a bullet or two for himself just incase the ball landed black |

People who need a sign that says not to try something are dyslexic when it comes to warnings and advisories anyway...
Basically there's two types of people, those who can figure things out in beforehand. And those who have to shoot themselves in the head before realizing it's lethal. |

I think you misscalculated there son, it's more like 270.000 nights now. When she used to look better (meaning when a paper bag was sufficent to cover up her severe appearance defecit) it was a buck in those days... A bird told me it's now down to hard currency half dollars, now even bums can afford her.

Yep, some peeps might get a fix idea that the chances are greater than random to win, just because they're watching a successful attempt. *points at my head and makes a circular movement with my index finger*... That's the kind of people who voted twice for bush, and buys anything that comes out of the mouth of any sheep herder in the goverment.
So if you ask me.. I'd say that a "dont try this at home sign" would be better suited on a t-shirt and be worn by said idiots by law... hmmm, hold on.. *rearranges the letters*... "Don't try OR do anything this person does, ever"

It would make more sense if he had placed all his money in a game of poker instead, like the site he started up later... That way it would influence people (gambling addicts) more... Course he might not have been planning to open a poker site until later on, but i still feel like having a finger in the game is somehow playing it a bit more safer than "ALL ON RED!"
Yeah poker requires skill and a stoneface, but well if he should lack those skills. Then blackjack. |

I think a much more compelling video would have been to see "black" come up instead.
Have dorky boy lose ... then watch the look on his pathetic face as he realizes he just lost everything he owns, his friends, his parents, his pet dog and the only girl that ever loved him, Thelma.
We can then watch the life force drain out of his scrawny, middle aged body with poor dental hygiene.
Notice the facial palor and crazed look in his too close for comfort eyes ...
OK ... I need donuts and coffee
Cheers |

| That was such as risky move. He might have had only 136k to begin with but to lose it all would have jeopardize his future in many aspects. He could have made 272k within a couple years if he seriously invested his money in his education and career. The weight of that gamble was seriously skewed. |

As long as it wasen't a loan, and he had a steady job at the time. I wouldnt say he jeopardized anything really, except for the nice trinkets he might have been able to buy.. Or education... But as long as you have a steady income and don't spend more than you have, you can't lose more than the money...
All it means is that you're back to square one, which means the usual. Work and earn money like the majority of people... And most people who have a casual job, dont have very much money saved away, especially if they have a family.
It was a stupid move to do though, im not disputing that part. I sure as hell would have spent it more wisely myself. On a psychology education like im already planning myself, could use that kind of cash. Taking big-ass loans sucks. |

Congratulations, you are the million poster to fall in the category of "Reading and freely interpreting what people write and jumping to conclusions. Instead of reading, analyzing and understanding".
Pearlgrl wrote the following:
"He might have had only 136k to begin with but to lose it all would have jeopardize his future in many aspects."
And i was merely stating that:
"But as long as you have a steady income and don't spend more than you have, you can't lose more than the money..."
I meant that he wasen't going to put himself in such a drastic situation that he would be jeopardizing his life in many aspects. I just pointed at the fact that, all he could lose was his money. And if he has/had a job at the time, he would still have a regular income... Which means that he would still be making money like everyone else and his life would go on.
Do you need further explanation ? |

Psychology - a major I would never consider probably because I had barely passed that course. I'm actually Finance/Accounting major so I'm a little stringent when it comes to money. But what you say is true about returning to square one but the loss in general, personally for me, would weigh significantly more than the gains. He could have either way set up that poker site with 272k or 136k but in no way he could have done it with zero dollars. I just find his investment not well thought out.
But honestly, his successful gamble was either rigged or lucky. The main purpose of this clip is just for propaganda as RobYDMfan said. It tries to appeal to those who are desperate to win big like that owner but the percentage of having the odds in your favor and the ability to bet in your favor in roulette and in poker are totally different due to the fact that they are different gambling games. I'm sure the guy knew his gamble was a stupid one and by gambling stupidly but resulting in a RARE positive outcome, stupid players would come to his site and bet stupidly thinking there would be a postive outcome. |

that's what i was thinking, in the end of the video, with 136k, you can invest in safe bonds, or put it in the bank for monthly interest which would make it go on for ever, and you would take your cash no problem. |

I believe you could pass it quite well if you wanted to, but we all excel and become best at the areas where we have our biggest interests i think. And i would most likely suck at finance/accounting, im no genius at crunching numbers. And i can't say that im very stringent with money, not that i just throw them away of course.
Yep, either it was rigged or he was very very lucky, that's hard to say i think. But more or less as you said, it's bound to skew some peoples minds into naive thoughts.

Perhaps we just don't think the same way is all... If all he bets is what he owns and dont owe anyone anything if he loses. AND if he has a steady income. Then he can work his way up again, i bet his parents would back him up too. You dont place a bet like this without a minimum security of having a place to stay at if it goes to hell.
He is sure to have planned on what to do if he lost. And if he moved back home to his parents (or if he has a girlfriend). And have a job, all he'd need to do is to get an apartment (or stay with his girl) and start over... It isn't that complicated.
I wasen't reading the part that said he sold everything he owned, i thought it was just the cash he had earned it was all about. So yeah his life would change in some aspects if he had lost i give you that. |
