Wellllll, yes and no. For the most part you are right but there are still some formulas in electronics that work better in inches. I worked with metrics during the time when they tried to force it by legislation during Jimmy Carters era. Had we changed over to metric in the early years of the industrial revolution, It would have been fine, but it can only be classed as disastrous as applied to American industry too late. For one thing Metric screws (for no good reason) only come in fine threads. For instance a 1/4 inch screw commonly comes in 20 threads pr inch SAE, 28 tpi. fine, or 32 tpi spec fine. This is about a size that falls between 6 & 7 mm DIN and both have a thread pitch of 1 mm which is very close to the 1/4 28 fine thread. Not even considering the down time of machinery with stripped threads because people can't tell the difference, course threads have a purpose that the brain powers that came up with the stupid metric standard didn't comprehend. Course threads work well in soft materials as plastics, aluminum, magnesium, low carbon and high sulfur steels, where fine threads tend to gum up and strip when used in soft materials. Look at the idiotically designed plastic milk bottles made with fine threads. Engineers and draftsmen are supposed to know that bottle threads are standardized and available in the Machinists Handbook for the last century or so.
