You are corect sur it was actualy a fuel line that was slated to get replaced because the line was not rated to handle as much heat as the burn put out. Both crew were recovered safely. This web site shows all of the planes lost from the navy and marines from about the mid 70's. This crash is listed about half way down series #161273.

lol imagine the difference in cost, a whole fucking fighter jet VS a fuel line. I bet someone was laying under a table chewing on the carpet out of frustration after that one. |

Bad comunication between engineer and builder. It was only an issue on the F-14A after the engine modifcations and replacements. It was an easy fix and not that many planes went down due to the issue, I would guese as many as 5 but not more than 10. If you look at the list you would think that it would have been more, but most of the problems were due to pilot error such as missing the carrier deck. Also not all of the planes listed were lost due to crashes, most of them were taken out of service on the ground for one reasone or another like being sold to another country. In the end I think it is a shame that they are retiring the F-14 it is a great fighter platform and I will miss it at the air shows after this year
