	Sabres goalie Clint Malarchuk's jugular was sliced by the skate of St. Louis right winger Steve Tuttle in 1989. He almost died from the blood loss.

	His life was saved by the Buffalo Sabres trainer. He held the jungular for several minutes until he could be taken a hospital. He did return to the aud as a spectator for the next game and eventually played again.

	Actually, he remained goalie for another ten years, retiring in 2000 to coach. When they were wheeling him out in the stretcher, he actually asked if he'd be able to return to finish the game. He did suffer a pretty severe depression after the incident, mostly caused by the massive amount of painkillers he had to take. The wound in his throat required 300 stitches.

	After this guy had his throat torn open, it led to the requirement of all goalies to have to use neck guards. This incident occured before those were invented.

	Yeah i went to that game it was pretty crazy just to see this goaltender get cliped by the sk8 and then he bled on to the ice. yeah the trainer kept him alive untill the paramedics came. if he had been out there for 5 more minutse he would have died
